The major airports have most of the large car hire companies either in the terminal or within 10 to 15 minutes away with a free bus service from the airport to the  car hire depot. Sanford has 2 car hire companies on the airport Alamo and Dollar just a short walk from arrivals.

Booking: the reservation needs to be inclusive of car hire, insurance (Loss Damage Waiver etc.) car driver's, tax, and fuel.

If you elect to bring back the car with a full tank of fuel, do it, they charge 2-3 times the petrol costs to do it for you. 

Also of course, select the right size vehicle for you and your luggage, when booking (because they will try to upgrade you to charge you additional money), and don't forget to take with you the vehicle rental voucher issued when you booked the car, and a major credit card to confirm your ID when you pick up the vehicle.
